Dux Dine is situated in a historic turn-of-the-century Villa that was originally the Station Masters House for the Riccarton Railway.
The villa has been extensively but sympathetically reworked to provide a variety of spaces to be enjoyed whether it be an intimate candlelit dinner for two, a large group celebration at one of the huge Kauri tables, grabbing a morning coffee at the breakfast bar, enjoying a drink in the Lounge room, meeting friends for lunch in the sun drenched verandah or enjoying a platter in the sheltered verdant courtyard.
The original homeliness of the villa has been maintained making Dux Dine welcoming and very comfortable but with many fun and quirky elements to be discovered and revealed over subsequent visits. Come and enjoy our famous Dux hospitality and discover your favourite spot to be.

Our menus reflect our desire to serve customers meals to nourish, sustain, and excite with food that enriches our bodies, minds and souls.
The Dux is proud of it's strong relationships with local suppliers, growers and artisan producers, many forged over more than 30 years of Dux de Lux history.
Our seafood is of the highest quality and is caught locally in the cold waters off the coast of the South Island with an ever changing variety of species delivered daily to the kitchen door. Favourite staples are groper, gurnard, crayfish, terikihi, complemented with seasonally available species such as scallops, oysters and whitebait.
The vegetarian dishes reflect the very best of what is seasonally available, some of which is grown in our very own organic garden.
Beers and wines are carefully selected to represent the best of New Zealands bountiful offerings. We batch brew our own award wining beers by traditional methods to exacting standards. On offer are the famous Dux Lager, Nor'wester lager, Ginger Tom, Blue Duck, and seasonal varieties. These are complemented by other choice NZ beers, and wines that are predominantly NZ made.

Dux Dine is a partial successor to the famous Dux de Lux which was damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. Dux de Lux began life in 1978 as a collaborative effort between a group of people who had the desire to bring vegetarian food into mainstream dining. It was sited in 'The Arts Centre'- a group of beautiful stone Gothic Revival buildings that were previously the University of Canterbury, in an historic home built in the Arts and Crafts style and known as the 'Students Union' building. The restaurant proved very successful and in 1980 opened for lunch and dinner seven days a week. With the addition of a bar in 1983 'The Dux' became a very popular meeting and socialising place with it's indoor and outdoor settings, landscaped courtyard and large shade trees.
The Dux team were very interested in the local music scene and promoting touring NZ bands and this also became an integral part of the Dux de Lux culture. It added much to the diversity of the Dux experience and attracted another section of the community who might not have desired vegetarian food but loved the atmosphere, music and varied international beer selection.
The business grew and as other tenancies in the building became available the Dux took on more space and in late 1989 was able to open it's own craft brewery on site, along with a large 'Brew Bar' and an even larger courtyard. A tapas bar featuring seafood was included in the Brew Bar and a new chapter in dining at the Dux began, complementing it's famous salads and delicious vegetarian fare.
The Dux de Lux had fully come of age and was now the place to be, eat and meet. This tradition of fresh vegetarian and seafood cuisine, accompanied by fine beers, and sparked by great music continued very successfully until the fateful day in February 2011 when the earth shook. Dux de Lux was a hospitality venue of many parts and difficult to replace as a whole therefore some 'Duxlings' have been created. Dux Dine is the recreation of the restaurant arm. Dux Live is the music venue and bar located at 363 Lincoln Road, and watch out for Dux Brew coming soon!
